8 Crafty Gift Ideas For Your Loved One This Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of year again — Valentine’s Day is coming up and you’re thinking about what to gift your partner (or a special bestie!). If you’re crafty like us, you’re probably thinking about hand-making a gift this year. But maybe you need some inspiration to get you started. That’s why we’re here! We’ve compiled a list of some crafty Valentine's Day gifts that you can make for your loved one. Let’s dive into it!

1. A Handmade Candle

Making candles is a soothing experience and something pretty simple to try out at home! All you need is wax, a way to melt that wax, a wick, a jar, and (if you want to make scented candles) some essential oils. And if you don't want to buy essential oils, you can use blocks of pre-scented wax instead!

For your Valentine's Day candle, you can make a scented candle with the smells your partner loves. You could also decorate the top of the candle with dried flowers, crystals, or rocks. (To stay safe, just make sure the dried flowers aren’t too close to your wick so they don't catch fire!) When making candles, you can even get creative with your container — or lack thereof. You can use glasses, bowls, or really any vessel to hold your candle (as long as it withstands heat!). Why not make a candle in a special mug or glass? If you're feeling extra adventurous, you can even try out a mold to make a sculptural candle! And if you want a little bit of extra help getting started we offer a super fun candle making workshop

2. A Personalized Plant or Succulent Terrarium

We love a gift that you and your partner can keep alive together. (Hopefully!) We love plants — and even better, we love crafting a beautiful environment for them to live in. One option you have is to paint the pot that holds your plant. You can also decorate by gluing on charms or jewels — the sky is the limit! We also love decorating the soil around the plant with rocks and crystals.

Succulent terrariums are also a great alternative to a traditional plant in a pot if you want to try something different! With terrariums, you get to choose from a variety of shapes and designs. We love the classic rose bowl and the wine bottle planter! Taking inspiration from fairy gardens, you can add miniature items that add a little charm to the scene as well. Why not try incorporating some of your loved one's favorite animals like a mini frog or cat?

3. A Crochet Flower Bouquet

Is your partner is allergic to flowers? Or, maybe they hate that traditional bouquets die after a little while? Why not try crafting your own crochet flower bouquet! This project requires a little bit of crochet experience, but the outcome can be truly beautiful. By using lengths of wire in the stems of the flowers, you can bend and place them in lots of different ways. Here is one of our favorite crochet rose patterns! We know once you make one you'll want to make a whole bouquet!

4. A Dry Floral Arrangement

Want to craft a floral bouquet for your partner that won’t die, but don’t have any crochet experience? Why not try making them a floral arrangement using dried flowers! Dry florals are wonderful for being long-lasting — and no care is needed! You can usually buy dried flowers right from your local florist. And if you want to try a range of flowers out before committing, you can stop by our store and experiment with different types of flowers to your heart’s content! Our Forever Floral station is open whenever the store is open -- so pop by any time.

5. Moss Art

Feeling a plant-based material, but not a floral arrangement? How about trying moss art! Moss art uses preserved moss to form shapes and images on a canvas. All you’ll need is preserved moss (which you can buy from your local craft store), super glue, and a canvas. For extra fun you can also use dried flowers, twigs, or other decorative items to add to your art! For an extra Valentine's Day feel, we like laying out straw flowers in a heart-shaped or bouquet-like pattern.

6. A Charm Bracelet or Necklace

Does your loved one have a soft spot for jewelry? A personalized charm bracelet or necklace might be just the thing!. Finding charms that represent their various interests can really make this a special gift. You can also add charms that represent yourself as well and what makes your relationship so special. Making two so you can have a matching pair for both of you can also make it sweeter. Never made jewelry before and a little nervous? We have a walk-in station at our store dedicated to charms and we can help you out along your jewelry-making journey!

7. Cross Stitch Wall Hanging

Cross stitch is a lot of fun, and a great beginner craft to try out! There are lots of kits out there as well to help you get started with great designs. Since cross stitch uses a grid to create images it can be fun to fill in the grid yourself to create a message. We love these cross stitch letter designs that you can arrange yourself to create a message! When you’re finished with your piece, you can turn it into wall art by hanging it in an embroidery hoop or frame!

8. The Classic Love Letter — With a Twist!

We love the classic love letter. What is more romantic than writing down your love for another person? Why not take that love letter and add a crafty twist? Fold up your love note in an origami heart. Finding the hidden message by opening up your paper heart! You can also decorate your love letter with illustrations, stickers, washi tape, and collage. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your expression! We also love the art of paper quilling which you can add to your love letter as well!

We hope these 8 ideas give you the inspiration you need to craft the perfect Valentine’s gift! And remember, we always love helping you with your current craft project. If you want some help to make your gift extra special this year, our craft studio is always open

Also, stay tuned for our upcoming Valentine’s Day events! We’re working on workshops for two so you can make something fun together with your partner or bestie.

Until next time, keep crafting!
