Intermediate Knitting - How to Knit a Vest or Sweater (Burlington)

Have you already made a scarf and hat and want to take your knitting to the next level?  This is a must-have workshop to learn how to make essential wearables like sweaters and vests.  We will cover key topics and techniques such as:

- Increasing / decreasing stitches
- Top down vs. bottom-up methods
- The Raglan stitch
- How to shape your wearable
- How to create button holes
- How to customize stitches and pattern to your size

The actual item created will be a mini-sweater or vest that incorporates all the key concepts.  It is NOT meant to be wearable for an adult, but serves the purpose of being quick to create and practice on.  We will also discuss the measurements needed to create a 'real' garment. 

Your workshop comes with a complimentary Knitting Help workshop.  This is a session that's perfect if you need more time to finish or ask clarifying questions.  Simply look for an upcoming Help session and let us know (hello@craft-loft.com) which session you'd like to attend at least 48 hours before the session starts.  Please note that the same cancellation and rescheduling policy applies to the Help session.

If you hold a VIP Learning Pass, this workshop is FREE to attend (materials and sewing machine rental not included).  Simply send us a note at hello@craft-loft.com with the date, time, and name of the workshop before 48hr of the workshop's start time, and we will add you to the list!  If you have a Family Level VIP Learning Pass, please confirm how many people in your family will be attending.

Materials:  Not included.  We recommend medium weight yarn and matching knitting needles.  You can also purchase them in the store upon arrival.  You will have access to videos of key techniques so you can review and practice at home.  

Duration:  This workshop takes place over 3 x 2-hr sessions, one per week, with a final 4th session for problem solving and review.  We highly recommend making it to all the sessions, but every session will start with a summary review of the previous week's concepts so if you need to miss one, it's not the end of the world.  You will have access to videos to review and practice at home.

• First session: October 15th, 2026 at 5;30pm - 7:30pm
• Second session: October 22nd, 2026 at 5:30pm - 7:30pm 
• Third session: November 5th, 2026 at 5:30pm - 7:30pm 

Pre-Requisites:  You must be familiar with basic knitting stitches such as cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch , working in the round and bind off.  If you don't know them, please take a Knit Scarf and Knit Hat or private lesson to learn those stitches first.

How do I book for a workshop?

The best way to book for a workshop is through our website.  We close sign up 48 hours prior to the workshop, or when it sells out, whichever comes first, so be sure to book ahead!

Can I bring my child to a workshop?

Yes, please make sure that your child is at least as old as the minimum age requirement  for the workshop and that they are accompanied by an adult.  Each adult can bring up to two minors to a workshop.  Each child should have their own ticket and no more than 1 adult caretaker.   Additional adults in your party should have their own ticket.

The workshop sign up is closed on-line, can I still sign up?

Please call the store to see if there is enough seating or materials available.  Last minute accommodations are up to the discretion of the store staff and host.  We recommend booking your tickets at least 48 hour in advance.  

Can I bring a guest to the workshop and they'll just sit with me and watch?
All workshop attendees need to have their own ticket.  However, an adult caretaker can accompany a minor younger than 18 years old free of charge (one adult per minor please).  Check your workshop details for minimum age requirements to ensure that the workshop is appropriate for the minor.  

Can I take my project home?

In most workshops, you will be able to complete and take the project home.  However, some projects require curing or drying time and may need to stay at the store until ready.  Please check your workshop description for details.

What should I do if I need to reschedule or cancel my workshop?

We can provide store credit or reschedule your workshop as long as you let us know at least 48 hours prior to the workshop.  Please see our Refund Policy here for more details.

What should I do if I'm running late for my workshop?

We understand that traffic and emergencies happen and hope that you can make it to your workshop on time.  If you arrive late, we will do our best to catch you up on the content and steps covered for the workshop, but your host is not able to stay beyond the scheduled end time for the workshop.  If you cannot make it to your workshop, you can transfer your ticket to another person and they can attend in your place.  Unfortunately we do not offer store credit or reschedules for no shows.  Please see our Refund Policy here for more details.

Can I bring my dog?

We regularly have doggy visitors and well-behaved and quiet pups that get along with other humans and dogs are welcome!  However, we are not responsible if your dog ingests something they shouldn't.
